*REVIEW* The Corner Office by Katerina Baker

the corner office

Tara Johnson’s sacrifices are about to pay off: a senior executive at thirty-five at a Fortune 500 company, she’s one of the two finalists in line for a Managing Director position. Unfortunately, her rival of fifteen years, the charming, infuriating Richard Boyd, is just as qualified, and unlike her, he’s willing to cross pretty much every line to get what he wants.

Of all the things Tara stored in the attic to make it to the top, it’s her personal life she misses the most. That is, until she starts a steamy affair with sex god Aidan, her direct report. Interoffice relationships with a subordinate can mean the end of a career, and when Richard finds out, it’s the perfect opportunity to take his high-heeled nemesis out, especially since he’s still nursing a grudge against Tara for rejecting him years ago.

But Tara’s increasingly domineering lover has his own dark secrets, endangering more than just her career. As her liaison spirals out of control, salvation will come from the man she always thought she hated, and perhaps the only one to truly understand her.

This was a new author to me and one I was pretty excited she contacted us because after reading this book, I’m hooked. Ms. Baker had set a bar with the synopsis and one that intrigued me because it seemed like it would have so much drama and I LOVE drama! Now some parts hit close to home about Tara (the main character) because she is dealing with things at home regarding her mother and I was so scared to read this book. But even though I was terrified I kept going regardless of what was going to happen because I was just too involved to not read this book now.

Tara is this bad ass executive and she has worked so hard to become where she is in her life but life has a way of smacking you back into reality and saying “more, more, more”. She always thought that she was content in life being the bad ass that she was as a senior executive and just going to spend time with her mom, but things change. My FAVORITE part is where we meet her rivalry Richard, because you can just tell he doesn’t believe his shit doesn’t stink and he is like a gift to all woman. Although, I really did not like Richard at the very beginning I thought I started to see a different side of him that he kept hidden away to protect how people would perceive him.

We also get this hot bad boy/sexy man wearing a suit thrown into the mix when Tara hires a new employee for her team. At an awkward celebration things turn into more than I thought would happen and Tara starts to rethink being alone for the rest of her life. But little did she know that she was already trapped and her knight in shinning armor would be someone EVERYONE least expected. My feelings towards Aidan was very unexpected and all over the place, and although I enjoyed this sexy man, I leaned more towards dislike.

When I started to read this book I was unsure how everything would turn out in the long run and I was nervous about the outcome of every situation that popped up throughout the book. This book was going to end in a HUGE BANG! I applaud this talented author for having so many things for me to focus on and still keep me interested in every single aspect. At one point I jumped out of my seat because I was so wrapped up into the story that it scared the crap out of me. I have found a new author that I am certainly going to keep my eye on and wait to see what she has in store for us in the future! Congrats on this coming soon release!!

Caution Rant Ahead

I am a READER and a blogger and I love it! I love going to book signing events and meeting authors (even though I am shyish and awkward) but I have noticed a trend in the reading community and I have to say I am not liking it one bit! I have noticed that readers demands of authors (indie or published) are insane. They are so bad I listed some examples below:

1) Messaging an author and expecting a prompt response. They are busy they have lives families, jobs and deadlines, they cannot jump on social media just because the ding notification beckons them. Would you rather they write your next obsession or answer your PM? The choice is pretty clear to me.

2) They are not machines so why do we expect them to write the next in the series RIGHT AWAY! all because you devoured it in 2 days, um no. AUTHORS ARE PEOPLE and they sometimes need to rest their brain, sometimes the characters aren’t talking to them, sometimes they want to enjoy a book themselves.

3) Getting mad because they do not send out your GIVEAWAY winnings the next day after you are declared the winner, this one pisses me off the most I think. SERIOUSLY people CHILL THE FUCK OUT! Maybe they have a day job and can’t make it to the post office until next week, maybe they have a stack of stuff they want to send out all at once. OR maybe they have a schedule that you are not privy to just because you internet stalk the crap out of them. Here’s a thought, if you win a gift card, don’t spend the money until you have the actual gift card or code in hand. IF you won a book, wait for the mailman like everyone else.

4) Disowning or no longer “reading their stuff” because they are not writing fast enough. This is just childish and stupid.

5) THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT SO PAY ATTENTION! DO NOT EXPECT THE AUTHORS TO GIVE YOU THEIR WORK FOR FREE!!! For all that is holy just stop it! Please! These authors spend hours, ignoring their families, staring at computer screen to produce a book that will bring hours of enjoyment to many people. Would you work for hours on end for weeks and months for FREE? No you wouldn’t. If you cannot afford a book, go to the library, enter giveaways, sign up for ARCS, ask a friend to lend it you, whatever. Just don’t ask the author for free stuff. It pisses me off and I’m not even an author. It makes you look greedy. This includes PIRATING (or downloading a pirated copy) an authors work. It’s wrong and ILLEGAL so have some class and support the author and buy the books.

And last but not least:
6) BASHING AN AUTHOR because you feel you have been wronged in any of these instances. They are PEOPLE they have feelings so JUST DON’T DO IT!

So what I’m saying is RESPECT, SUPPORT and ENJOY what these talented PEOPLE give us.

“We’ll go change your address tomorrow. Make it official. Make us official. We’re really doing this?” There was a question in his voice, a fear in his heart. “What happens when I tell you my secret, Miya? What happens when I want you more than life? And I tell you my secret and you can’t look at me any longer without seeing a victim? What happens to us?” He grabbed up my face. “What happens to me if there is no you?”
I wondered if thinking of our pasts reminded him that I did not in fact know his, and he knew mine. But all that had done for me was make me yearn for him more. He was my happy place. “Jaxon, do you know what I want all day and all night?”
“What?” His thumbs stroked my cheeks, the soft warm pads of his fingers sending tingles down my spine.
“You. I want you, Jaxon. I’ve never wanted anything in my life until I met you. I’m not going to hurt you. I’m not going to leave you. I won’t ever see a victim and I won’t ever want anything but you. You have to trust me, my dark master, the same way I have to trust you.”
He sighed, letting me go and heading into the house. “Trust is not something I understand.”

**REVIEW** Break Me by Logan Chance

Break Me

You can’t help who you fall for.

Katy Vanderlin has a problem. A man who won’t leave her alone. Until he proposes to her in front of her company as a joke.
Wanting to make partner at her consulting firm, she sees an opportunity arise. Hire the man to be her fake fiance until after the holidays.
Extravagant parties, company get-together’s and it should be a shoo-in for her.

One problem, Pollux Clark.

Pollux is hired to be her fake fiance if he can not mess it up, she might possibly become partner.

If he can just keep his past hidden well, and his reasoning for being near her contained he may just make the pay out of his lifetime.

But for these two the fun is only beginning. Until one of them breaks. Who will be first?

Logan Chance has yet to disappoint and I loved this book in so many ways that surprised me. I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to read this book and for personal reasons only did I think that, nothing to do with the book or author. But I just could not put it down! The opening chapter just shocked the crap out of me and blew me away that BAM, we open up to reading this happening right off the bat. I loved it though!

Just reading Katy’s reaction to what happened right off the bat had me already excited for her character and ready to see what was next for her. What I did not expect was all the mind blowing turn of events! SO CRAZY!!

Pollux was an interesting man I would have never guessed would be the man at the end of the book. I love a mystery to a man but Katy seemed to keep everything business-like, relatively throughout the book, even with her battle with herself.

Logan Chance has this way to write about characters that puts me in a frame of mind that I feel like I’m actually living what is being read throughout the book. I love that and so much more about this book but I absolutely need you to read this book to understand. The shock factor just had me covering my mouth for a good few chapters and I was speechless! Congrats on this book that will leave you speechless!!!

*REVIEW* The History In Us by L.B. Dunbar

the history in us

Are you a hero yet?
Her words rang in my head.
I wanted to be.
For you, I want to be, I told her in my dream, the dream where she kissed me again.

A hero-worthy kiss.

Stay safe, she had said. Come back to me.
My lips tingled.
The brush of hers over mine a memory held in the blackest of night,
the hottest of desert days,
and the cold-evil hell of war against hidden enemies.

I wanted another chance to taste those lips,
melt them against mine,
and mold her body to me.
I wanted to live.
For Katie.

This book was a super for me, with some emotional twists and craziness I wasn’t expecting. I haven’t read this author on her own but I have read some when she has cowritten with other authors and so I knew I would be blown away but so many moments took my breathe away.

Katie was young and Levi was going into the military but things happen when you least expect them to, and the connection these two had you would have never expected. I wasn’t sure how I would take a little age gap but the way this author wrote these characters you could feel the connection.

Towards the end so many unexpected things happen and you aren’t sure how this author will have the lives of these characters go and I absolutely loved that aspect of this story. I am all for a happy ending but when things just aren’t meant to be you question if it should have a happy ending. Another part I really loved was Katie’s roommates! Kentucky was such an added bonus even though we didn’t get to see her much, the mystery to her was so awesome.

Apart of me wanted to hate Levi at times and my head had a hard time dealing with certain chapters but honestly I was upset with Katie at times too. So much of this book was so awesome and you just really need to read this book to get the full awesomeness effect! I apologize for the incredibly late review but congrats on this breathe taking book!!

*Excerpt Reveal* Bad Penny by Staci Hart

Bad Penny, an all-new romantic comedy standalone from Staci Hart is coming June 15th!

cover-wrap-penny copy

Title: Bad Penny

Author: Staci Hart

Nothing good comes after the third date.

See, date three is the crucial point when things get real, which is exactly why I bounce out the door, twiddling my fingers at whatever poor boy I’ve left behind. Because if I stick around, one of three things will happen: he’ll profess his undying love, he gets weird and stalky, or I’ll go crazy. Like, Sid and Nancy crazy. Like, chase-him-through-the-streets-begging-him-to-love-me crazy.

Seriously, it’s better for everyone this way.

So when I meet Bodie, I figure it’ll be the same as it ever was. It doesn’t matter that he doesn’t put a single string on me. Doesn’t matter that he’s funny and smart and jacked and can play my body like a grand piano. Because even though I’m built for love, love has only carved me up like a Christmas ham.

Resistance is something I can only hang on to for so long, and he has persistence in spades. But my heart isn’t as safe as I want to believe, and neither is his. And the second I ignore my cardinal rule is the second I stand to lose him forever.

She glanced behind me, twiddling her fingers, presumably at Jude and Phil. “So, you’re a twin, huh?”

I nodded and took a sip of my Maker’s as “Rock the Casbah” kicked off, and everyone around us started bouncing and dancing. “Since birth.”

She laughed. “What a win for the universe that there would be two of you.”

“Double your pleasure, double your fun.”

That caught her off guard, and her bottom lip slipped between her teeth as a flush rose on her cheeks.

Just like that, I had one objective, and it began and ended with her lips.

“Although I should tell you now,” I stepped closer, slipping into her space, and her eyes widened, pupils dilating as she leaned into me, “I don’t like to share.”

The tip of her pink tongue darted out to wet her lips, and her eyes were locked onto my mouth.

“Are you thinking about kissing me?” I asked.

She shook her head, though her eyes didn’t stray. “No, I’m thinking about what your dick looks like.”

I laughed from way down deep in my belly, shocked in the best way and turned on in the worst. And as the ocean of people waved around us, she rose up on her tiptoes, grabbed a handful of my T-shirt, and pulled.

I caught the smallest breath — a surprised, satisfied gasp — just before our lips met, and fireworks exploded in my brain. The kiss wasn’t soft or sweet; it was strong and determined, those red, red lips pressing against mine, opening to let me into her hot mouth, her tongue finding mine like she’d been looking for it her whole life.

The surprise left me as quickly as it had hit, and I leaned into her, my free arm winding around her back to press her body against mine. There wasn’t an inch of space between us, and all the while, our mouths worked each other’s in a long dance that left my heart chugging like a freight train in my chest.

She pulled away, her lips swollen and eyes lust-drunk as they met mine and held them while she kicked back her drink and grabbed my hand.

“Let’s get the fuck out of here,” she said.

And I smirked, breathless. “Your place or mine?”

5* Review-Walk Through Fire (Chaos #4) by Kristen Ashley

The flame never dies . . .

Millie Cross knows what it’s like to burn for someone. She was young and wild and he was fierce and even wilder-a Chaos biker who made her heart pound. They fell in love at first sight and life was good, until she learned she couldn’t be the woman he needed and made it so he had no choice but to walk away. Twenty years later, Millie’s chance run-in with her old flame sparks a desire she just can’t ignore. And this time, she won’t let him ride off . . .

Bad boy Logan “High” Judd has seen his share of troubles with the law. Yet it was a beautiful woman who broke him. After ending a loveless marriage, High is shocked when his true love walks back into his life. Millie is still gorgeous, but she’s just a ghost of her former self. High’s intrigued at the change, but her betrayal cut him deep-and he doesn’t want to get burned again. As High sinks into meting out vengeance for Millie’s betrayal, he’ll break all over again when he realizes just how Millie walked through fire for her man

KA writes her best Chaos book to date.

High (Logan or Lo) and Millie are sweet the first time around but SEXY as H*** the second time around. This is a guaranteed tear jerker and I recommend you have tissue handy.
Many will think the idea behind the BIG secret is a bit far fetched but I feel it showcases the immaturity of Millie and High both. Even when they meet the ONE they are not old enough to appreciate what they have at the time. This is another instance of a communication not being a significant part of a relationship.

That being said, I LOVED this book. The beginning is hard to stomach because there is so much misplaced emotion but once the dirty laundry is aired the relationship is a mature and copacetic one. You can even feel the love that they have for each other in the beginning. There is no way two people react to each other the way that Millie and High do if there is not feelings there.

I like the cameos of the Dream Man series hot guys and the other welcoming committee (Tyra, Elvira and Lanie)

I always look forward to KA releases and as usual she did not disappoint.

I listened to this story via audible this time around and I have to say it was even more emotional this time around. I “High”ly (pun intended) you listen to this one if given the chance the narration is spot on and gives the story a lot more emotion than I read on the page ( and there was a TON of emotion read first time around) SO. MANY. FEELS!!!

**BLOG TOUR** The Foxe & The Hound by R.S. Grey

When your life is a hot mess at twenty, it’s cute. At twenty-seven…well, not so much.

It’s just that my lofty dreams—making it as a real estate agent, paying rent on time, showering daily—have stayed just that: dreams. Oh, and love? I’ve decided love might be a little ambitious for me at the moment. Instead, I’ve settled for the two guys who will never leave me: Ben & Jerry.

That is, until Dr. Adam Foxe takes up residence as the town’s new vet.

With his strong jaw, easy confidence, and form-fitting scrubs, it’s not long before every housewife in Hamilton is dragging neglected tomcats in for weekly checkups.

Like everyone else, I’m intrigued. Even after I spoil my chance at a good first impression, he still offers me a proposition I can’t refuse: play his girlfriend at a family function and he’ll hire me as his real estate agent. Welcome to love in the 21st century.

It’s too bad I underestimated Adam’s irresistible charm and the undeniable attraction that burns between us. The day he pins me to the wall and silences me with a kiss, the line between reality and ruse begins to blur. Every teasing touch brings me to my knees. Every kiss promises more.

It looks like my hot mess of a life is about to get a little hotter.
